Duplicate titles: why your pages compete

In your audit this appears as Pages with duplicated title

Several pages on your site share exactly the same <title>. It usually happens without anyone deciding it: the template generates it and every entry ends up called the same thing.

Why it matters

If two pages present themselves with the same name, the search engine has to guess which to show for a query, and sometimes it picks the one you did not want. Your own pages compete with each other instead of adding up.

For the person reading the results it is worse: they see three identical links and cannot tell which to click. And in their history or their tabs, every one is called the same.

Where it usually comes from

  • Pagination: "Blog | My Site" repeated on pages 2, 3, 4…
  • Filters and sort orders that create a new URL without changing the title.
  • Product pages that differ only by size or colour.
  • Language or region variants that are misconfigured.

How to fix it

  • Make the template include whatever distinguishes each page: the product name, the category, or "(page 2)" on paginated ones.
  • If two pages really are the same, do not differentiate them: merge them, or point the duplicates at the good one with a canonical tag.
  • Check that filters are not generating indexable URLs nobody needs.
In a line

If you cannot write two different titles for two pages, perhaps they should not be two pages.
